Top 10 Reasons. . .

Several times in the past month, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with different groups concerning steps we can all take toward a healthier lifestyle. One aspect of the information I shared is Top 10 Reasons to start a new healthy habit.

Top 10 Reasons to Start a New Healthy Habit

  1. It’s never too late to start a new healthy habit.
  2. A new, healthy habit, consistently implemented, has rapid positive benefits: we feel better; have more energy; our moods improve; we sleep better.
  3. Adding physical activity as a new, healthy habit brings noticeable results quickly:
  • We are better able to manage our weight
  • Stronger heart
  • Increased energy
  • Sleep better at night
  • Stress relief
  • Improved strength and balance

There are more good reasons…

4. Finding a partner or group to exercise with encourages you and others to join in starting a new, healthy habit. You’ll have social interactions too!

5. Walking is a great way to start a new, healthy habit. If you’re not currently walking regularly, begin with short distances (five minutes per day four to five days per week). Adding on increments of minutes at weekly or bi-weekly intervals allows you to work up to 30 or more minutes daily for five days a week (a goal of 150 minutes per week).

6. Adding more fruits and veggies as a new, healthy habit will make your body appreciate you. Prepared in a healthy way (fresh when possible) fruits and veggies supply your body with vitamins, minerals, and fiber—nutrients your body will thank you for by being healthier. Being careful with preparation of fruits and veggies helps us limit added sugar or fat.

7. Drinking more water and less of other beverages is an outstanding new, healthy habit. Your body craves water and cringes when you drink sodas or sugary drinks instead.

8. Stress relief

9. Healthy habits, when implemented for a lifetime help us live longer with a better quality of life.

10. It’s never too late to start a new, healthy habit (or several!)

  2. Great advice, as always, Katherine.
For some reason, as I read this, I thought of the saying that floated around years ago: “Be kind to your colon.” All you’re suggesting here does that too.
Thanks again for the sound advice.
    God bless you.

I haven’t heard that slogan, Connie, but I’m glad you shared it. “Be kind to your colon is great advice” and healthy eating and regular physical activity are two important ways for us to be kind to our colon. Thank you for sharing that advice and for your encouraging words. Wishing you joy and blessings.

“Never too late” can apply to numerous aspects of our lives, can’t it? Not only making some healthier lifestyle changes, but other actions that can benefit ourselves or others. Some possibilities might be: studying God’s word; volunteering; or learning a new skill. Peace and blessing, Nancy!
